Helping Hands can Indeed Help
It is heartening to see initiatives like #helpinghands and #alumnidirectories to help the professionals who lost their jobs in the COVID-2019 slowdown.
What can the candidates, hiring manager and recruiters do?
More and more professionals must use the Linkedin Platform for sharing their situation and asking for help
The stigma associated with getting laid off is too much be handled by one individual, and hence the community can come forward to help.
Be visible and use the down-time to add new skills to your resume. Be prepared for an interview call. As they say, it is much better to be prepared for the opportunity that may not come, than to have an opportunity and be unprepared.
How many recruiters and hiring managers are you reaching out daily? What skills are you learning that can help you get back in the job-market ?
I still feel more and more people can be open about it and seek help from strangers on a professional platform like Linkedin. If people do not respond, do not view it like rejection- maybe they are not in a position to help you. Forgive them, and move on because there are a lot of good people in this world.
If you are a decision-maker (the hiring manager)- and a profile looks suitable for a job application you are aware of, then, by all means, help the individual in getting hired within your organization or refer them to someone within your network.
Remember someone gave you your first job- you did not start as the top guy.
Recruiters can also prioritize the applications from those who have been laid off or are fresh graduates. Help as many as you can.
